DELE (The Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera)- Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language) is an international diploma confirming knowledge of Spanish at a certain level. DELE is taken by non-native Spanish speakers. DELE is an official diploma issued by the Spanish Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science since 1998. Exam materials are also developed by the University of Salamanca. The diploma is recognized by educational institutions and is used as an entry requirement, by different authorities and also in business sphere. DELE covers six levels of language proficiency from CEFR A1 to CEFR C2 and is divided into two types of:
1) for school-aged children;
2) for adults.
The exam is held 5 times a year and can be taken in more than 100 countries around the world. The main advantage of DELE is that the diploma’s validity is not limited. Usually the exam results are in 3 months after the exam date. All grades are to be approved by the University of Salamanca.
